IRU rewards best CIS hauliers 2009

The FINANCIAL -- On the occasion of the General Assembly of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), IRU President, Janusz Lacny, presented the 7th annual IRU awards for the “Best Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Road Transport Operator”.

The award, organised jointly with the CIS Transport Coordination Council, recognises outstanding performance in road transport management, including the development and implementation of best practices in favour of social programmes and sustainable economic growth.

 

Separate awards were presented to the best company in each of the three different fleet size categories:

 

Category 1 Award (up to 10 vehicles): “Investkhimprom”(Russia), for the particular attention paid to professional training and outstanding economic achievements, commended by the Russian Ministry of Transport through the pan-Russian annual transport contest “Golden Chariot”;


Category 2 Award (11 to 50 vehicles): Belsotra (Belarus), for its best practices in environmental protection (77% of its fleet is composed of Euro5 vehicles) , as well as social programmes applied to employees;


Category 3 Award (more than 50 vehicles), Auto+ (Ukraine), for its high environmental standard (80% of its vehicles are Euro5), steady economic growth despite the crisis and sound corporate social responsibility programme. 


The IRU Certificate of Honour was awarded to two companies for their achievements in specific areas. These certificates went to Intertransavto (Belarus) for the effective set of measures implemented to offset the economic crisis and to Premium Logistic (Kazakhstan) for sound investments that allowed the company to expand its scope of activities over 2009 despite the economic crisis.

 

Entries were assessed by an international  jury which comprised: V. Florea (AITA President and Chairman of the IRU Liaison Committee to the CIS), S. Trubarov (EurAsEC Department Manager), C. Izmailov (Chairman of the CIS Coordinating Transport Conference Committee), D. Cheltsov (Chairman of the Transport and Customs Committee, Association of European Businesses in Russia), A. Chesnokov (Head of the Russian Foreign Center - Roszarubezhcenter), and I. Rounov (IRU General Delegate to the CIS region).
