The FINANCIAL -- Out of the most popular fragrances amongst Georgian women interviewed by The FINANCIAL, Narciso Rodriguez’s For Her and Chanels’ Chance top the list. Carolina Herrera’s CH and Paco Rabanne are considered by Georgian perfume companies the most demanded scents for men.

“My favourite perfume is Narciso Rodriguez’s For Her,” says Teo Japaridze, 22, perfume store visitor.

“I don’t usually buy perfume for myself, I prefer to buy them for my wife,” says another customer, Levan Abashidze, 28.

Georgians are very fond of fragrances. That is why the companies selling these internationally popular aromas in Georgia claim that the global recession did not affect their business.

“People like to try something new. That’s why they choose new fragrances offered by different brands,” Ici Paris and Lutecia, leading perfume companies in Georgia, told the FINANCIAL.

According to Ici Paris’ PR Manager Khatia Shamugia, the most demanded fragrance among women in 2009 was Narciso Rodriguez’s “For Her” and Carolina Herrera perfumes for men.

“From the day Narciso Rodriguez’s perfume entered our company it straightaway became popular. The price for Narciso Rodriguez perfumes start from 140 GEL and go up to 240 GEL,” Shamugia explains.

According to Maiko Kaviladze, Manager of Lutecia, one of the most demanded perfumes is Guerlain Idylle, starting from 150 GEL and John Galliano perfumes, from 150 GEL as well.

“As is usual the most popular fragrances are the ones which are newly offered to consumers. At the moment, both women and men are equal when speaking about which of them buy perfume more often. It is also common for women to buy perfume for men and for men to buy perfume for women,” Kaviladze says.

According to Kaviladze, Paco Rabanne perfumes were very popular in 2009 and remain very popular at the moment too.

“The list of most popular perfumes hasn’t changed significantly this month and the fragrances mentioned above remain the most popular. Nina Ricci’s Ricci Ricci is also very popular at the moment in our network,” Kaviladze says.

“In 2009, we offered some novelties to our customers including John Galliano and Prada perfumes, which also became quite popular among Lutecia’s clients and according to our customers they are very content with these products,” Kaviladze explains.

As St. Valentine’s Day is coming soon and as cosmetics and perfume are among the most desired gifts for people, Georgian cosmetic companies offer discounts and special offers for the holiday.

“We will offer discounts and special gifts to our customers for St. Valentine’s Day. People may visit us and choose any desired cosmetics or perfumes at our network on the special day for lower prices,” Shamugia says.

“We will offer 50-60% discounts on St. Valentine’s Day to our customers. We will also offer some special cosmetic sets which will be decorated specially for the Valentine’s Day celebration,” Kaviladze declares.

The bestselling brands in 2008, according to Ici Paris, were:

For women: 1. Herrera CH; 2. Versace Bright Crystal; 3. YSL Elle; 4. Chanel Chance; and 5. Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline.

For men: 1. YSL L’Homme; 2. Versace Pour Homme; 3. D&G The One; 4. Hermes Ter De Hermes; and 5. Versace Man Eau Fraiche.
