| 20,245 Trademarks Registered in Georgia |

The FINANCIAL -- According to Sakpaneti - National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia, 20,245 trademarks have been registered in Georgia since the establishment of the organization. There are 26,704 trademarks protected by international agreements.
There are 18 Georgian and 787 foreign manufacturer names. There are 4,900 invention patents issued, including locally 1,542. On industrial patterns 409 patents have been issued. According to international agreement there are 1,757 protected industrial patterns.
According to the officials of the National Intellectual Property Centre last year, total expenses amounted to 800,000 GEL.
“In 2010 incomes from registration fees will be maximally redistributed to employees and will be used according to the needs of the company. Some of the spare income will be transferred to the state budget,” Sakpatenti officials note.
Irakli Ghvaladze was appointed Director General of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia on 6 February 2010.
“Sakpateni’s newly appointed Director General, Irakli Gvaladze plans to implement some very important changes in the organization, which are directed first of all towards spending expenses with care, taking in to account the current financial crisis in the country,” Sakpatenti Officials say.
“In Georgian Patent law a project of changes has been created and a new draft law about design. A project of changes regarding the cost of registration of intellectual property has also been created. This project is being sent to the Government for future discussion.
New symbols of the company have been created as well,” Sakpatenti officials note.
