The FINANCIAL -- Women made up 8% of corporate managerial positions in fiscal 2009, up 1.1 points from three years earlier, according to a Labor Ministry survey.
This was the biggest gain since the poll began in fiscal 1995. But the ratio remained at just 5.6% for large companies.
"Women accounted for 11.1% of entry-level managerial positions, up 60 basis points, but their proportion declined in higher ranks, accounting for only 5% of section-chief-level posts and 3.1% of division-manager-level positions, up 1.4 and 1.1 points respectively," Nikkei.com informs.
About 60% of the companies cited a lack of females who have the necessary knowledge and experience. More than 20% said women leave before they become managers.
