Reports: Saakashvili to Meet Some Opposition Leaders

The FINANCIAL -- According to Civil Georgia, President Saakashvili will meet with opposition lawmakers and some non-parliamentary opposition leaders at an extended session of National Security Council on October 12, the Georgian media sources reported on October 11.

The first similar meeting was held on August 6.

 

Saakashvili offered the opposition to attend NSC sessions to exchange views on the country’s foreign policy and security issues on July 20.
 
Irakli Alasania, leader of Alliance for Georgia; Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, leader of Party of Freedom; Zurab Tkemaladze, leader of Industrialists Party and Akaki Asatiani, leader of Traditionalists party were among those non-parliamentary opposition leaders who attended the first meeting with the President in frames of NSC in August.

The FINANCIAL -- According to Civil Georgia, the ruling party has already compromised on number of key electoral issues, including on rule of electing Tbilisi mayor and now expects the Alliance for Georgia to reciprocate and agree on 30% threshold for electing the capital city’s mayor, a senior ruling party lawmaker said on November 20.
