EBRD President Thomas Mirow will visit Georgia on the 17th March 2010 as part of his three day trip to the South Caucasus.
EBRD President will meet President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili , as well as other senior officials including Minister of Economic Development Zurab Pololikashvili, Minister of Energy Alexander Khetaguri, Deputy Minister of Energy Marika Valishvili, Deputy Minister of Finance Dimitri Gvindadze, Minister for Regional Investment and Infrastructure Lasha Gotsiridze, and the President of the National Bank Giorgi Kadagidze.
During his visit to Georgia, President Mirow will sign two projects for a total investment of €180 million, including a €100 million to Tbilisi Bypass, the largest ever signed by the Bank in Georgia so far.
The €100 million loan to Tbilisi Bypass will finance the construction of a new bypass route which should improve the efficiency and safety of Georgian Railways operations within Tbilisi .
An €80 million loan to EnergoTrans for the construction of a new high voltage transmission line - the Black Sea High Voltage line, which will interconnect Georgia and Turkey. With this loan the EBRD will help improve the quality of power supply and stimulate renewable sources of energy in the Caucasus.
During his visit, President Mirow will underline the EBRD's continued commitment to work with the Georgian government to push through necessary reforms and promote further the growth and the development of the whole region.
The EBRD is one of the largest investor in Georgia, with more than €717 million committed in over 129 projects in sectors ranging from agribusiness to banking and energy to supporting entrepreneurs. Working with partners from the public and private sector, the Bank has mobilised more than €3.4 billion in additional investments.
