TBILISI. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) continues assisting Georgian parliament to effectively fulfil its constitutional responsibilities of representation, law-making, policy-making and government oversight.
In the coming 2 years, UNDP will provide technical and expert support to help the parliament enhance its role during the formulation of national budget as well as in policy-making for democratic local self-governance. UNDP will also assist in improving the human resource management in the parliament.
In addition, UNDP will promote partnership and cooperation of the Georgian parliament with the Eastern European, Baltic and Nordic parliaments.
Currently the budget of the project stands at USD 270 thousand with the prospect to increase to USD 900 thousand.
UNDP has been assisting parliamentary development in Georgia since 2004. As part of this assistance, UNDP organised training courses and seminars for MPs and parliament staff. Furthermore, UNDP helped to launch the first web portal of the Georgian parliament (www.parliament.ge) and the information website for children (http://teens.parliament.ge), establish the media centre, and modernize the National Parliamentary Library.
