The FINANCIAL -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) on September 9 launched its innovative 100G IPsolution in China, completing the first live demo of the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router’s (SR) 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100 GE) interface for China Telecom.
According to Alcatel-Lucent , this demo validates the service router’s ability to handle the broad range of capabilities needed to support the scaling of connections at 100 Gbps line-rate speeds. It also demonstrates the viability of 100 GE interfaces for broad deployment throughout carrier networks, extending beyond the IP core into the service edge and metro, where services meet the network.
The China Telecom Corporation Limited Beijing Research Institute also testified the readiness of Alcatel-Lucent ’s 100G IPsolution for deployment at the service edge, helping the construction of the super broadband networks.
The Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR offers the industry’s first 100 GE solutions that support the broad array of edge services as well as full IP routing and Ethernet switching. 100 GE represents a ten-fold leap forward in capacity for service providers who need to scale their networks efficiently and with minimal risk to support traffic growth in their business, residential and mobile services.
The Alcatel-Lucent service router portfolio is the only family of products that has been independently validated under strenuous real-world conditions for multiple deployment scenarios throughout the network, with high performance, QoS and service level assurance across tens of thousands of connections. As the market leader in 100G solutions, Alcatel-Lucent provides best of breed offerings across IP and optics with 100GE service routing and 100G coherent optics as well as the industry’s most comprehensive IP/optical integration framework with its Converged Backbone Transformation (CBT) solution.
“This success with China Telecomfurther highlights Alcatel-Lucent ’s leading position in the 100 GE arena and confirms that we can help our customers in China and around the world efficiently scale their enterprise, mobile and residential activities,” said Romano Valussi, president of Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell. “Our solution also aligns with China’s national strategy to converge telecom, internet and TV &radio broadcasting networks, and the grand scale application of video services.”
To date, Alcatel-Lucent has shipped more than 70,000 IP/MPLS service router portfolio systems, deployed by over 350 service providers in 110 countries around the world. According to Dell’oro, Alcatel-Lucent holds the number two position in IP/MPLS service provider edge routing with 20 percent market share as of 1Q2010.
