The FINANCIAL -- Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev has congratulated the Party of the Regions' leader Viktor Yanukovych on his success in the Ukrainian presidential elections.
This is stated on the official Internet website of the president of Russia.
"Dmitry Medvedev has congratulated Viktor Yanukovych on the completion of the election campaign, which received high marks from international observers, and the success that was achieved in the presidential elections," the statement on the website said.
According to the statement, Medvedev congratulated Yanukovych by telephone.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, voting in the second round of the Ukrainian presidential elections took place on February 7.
The two candidates in the second round of the presidential elections are Yanukovych and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who won the largest numbers of votes in the first round of the presidential elections on January 17.
With 99.97% of the votes counted, Yanukovych has 48.95% and Tymoshenko 45.47%.
The turnout was 69.07%.
