| Rada Appoints Azarov As Prime Minister |

The FINANCIAL -- The parliament has appointed Parliamentary Deputy Mykola Azarov of the Party of the Regions faction as the new Prime Minister of Ukraine .
Azarov was appointed by 242 votes, compared with the minimum required 226 votes.
Azarov, 62, was born in the town of Kaluha.
He graduated with a degree in geology/geophysics from the MOSCOW State University (Russia) in 1971.
He holds a doctorate in geology and mineralogical sciences and a professorship. He has been a correspondent member of the National Academy of Sciences since 1997.
He headed the State Tax Administration from 1996 to 2002.
He held the post of Ukraine 's first deputy prime minister/finance minister from November 2002 to February 2005 and from august 2006 to December 20076.
Azarov was elected into the parliament on the Party of the Regions' list of candidates in 2007.
He has headed the political council of the Party of the Regions since April 2003.
He is married with a son. His hobbies are painting and reading.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the parliamentary factions of the Party of the Regions, the Communist Party, and the Lytvyn Bloc as well as individual parliamentary deputies have formed a coalition consisting of 235 deputies.
