The FINANCIAL -- The World Bank is recommending that Ukrainian authorities double the tariffs for household gas and utility services by 2011, World Bank Director for Ukraine , Belarus and Moldova Martin Raiser has told a news conference.
"The rates must grow two-fold and only for the households," he said.
As to Raiser, this step would allow ensure financial viability for the energy companies and at the same time pull down reliance on the budgetary transfers.
Besides, the World Bank gave a recommendation to the Ukrainian authorities raise the pension age for women to 60 from 55, moreover, in the bank's opinion, it should be raised every year by six months beginning from 2010.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Ukraine undertook to the International Monetary Fund to raise prices of gas for the population and municipal heating enterprises from October 2009 but this decision never took effect because of litigations with trade unions.
