The FINANCIAL -- President Viktor Yanukovych does not plan to submit to the parliament a recommendation on dismissal of the National Bank of Ukraine 's Chairman Volodymyr Stelmakh.
Yanukovych announced this during a meeting with members of the new Cabinet of Ministers.
"The prime minister said yesterday that there were already three candidates for this post. I would like to request that such words should not be thrown around and that my opinion be taken into account. Replacement of the chairman of the NBU is not in my plans at this stage," Yanukovych said.
According to him, the cooperation between the Cabinet of Ministers and the National Bank of Ukraine 's needs to be strengthened.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the parliament appointed Stelmakh as the chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine on December 16, 2004.
The Party of the Regions, the Communist Party, the Lytvyn Bloc, and some individual parliamentary deputies formed a coalition in the parliament on March 11, and the coalition subsequently approved the Cabinet of Ministers headed by Azarov.
