The FINANCIAL -- Campaigning for this year's local elections will begin on Saturday, September 11.
The relevant decision was made at a meeting of the Central Electoral Commission.
"The Central Electoral Commission announces that the electoral process for the latest elections of deputies of the Supreme Council of the Crimean Autonomous Republic and local councils, as well as village, rural, and municipal heads, excluding the Kyiv municipal head and deputies of the Kyiv and Ternopil municipal councils, will begin on September 11," Central Electoral Commission's Chairman Volodymyr Shapoval said.
According to the law "On Election of Deputies of the Supreme Council of the Crimean Autonomous Republic, Local Councils, and Village, Rural, and Municipal Heads," electoral processes are to begin 50 days before the election day.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the parliament canceled the provision of the law on local elections that stipulates that local chapters of political parties can participate in local elections only if they register at least 365 days before the local elections on August 30.
A law that the parliament adopted on July 10 stipulated that local elections were to be based on a mixture of majority and proportional representation systems without participation of blocs of political parties. According to this law, only political parties and local organizations of the relevant level that are registered at least 365 days before elections can nominate candidates.
The next local elections are scheduled for Sunday, October 31.
