The FINANCIAL -- American International Group, Inc. (AIG) on November 6 reported a profit in the third quarter of 2009, as certain of its businesses continue to stabilize and the company’s results reflected positive market valuation changes.

The FINANCIAL -- In the third quarter, Munich Re achieved a consolidated profit of €651m (same period last year: €2m). The profit for the first nine months of the year amounted to €1.8bn (1.4bn).

The FINANCIAL -- Zurich Financial Services Group (Zurich) reported today a solid nine-month operating performance, with balance sheet strength and solvency margins at near-record levels, and continued profitable growth in Global Life and Farmers underpinning the Group’s 27th consecutive quarter of profitability.

The FINANCIAL -- U.K. insurance giant Aviva on November 4 reported an 11-percent drop in the third quarter in worldwide sales.

The FINANCIAL -- ING announced on November 3 that it has reached an agreement to sell three of its U.S. independent retail broker-dealer units, which comprise three-quarters of ING Advisors Network, to Lightyear Capital LLC.
