The FINANCIAL -- Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) announced on March 10 that it will open a new customer service center in Miami-Dade, Florida later this year.
The center, which will be co-located in the same building as Visa's Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) headquarters, will create more than 350 new positions in Visa's Global Customer Care Services group.
The Miami-Dade employees will provide support for Visa's financial institution clients, merchants and cardholders, including Visa's global customer assistance program, Visa Extras rewards program and debit processing services. Once operational this summer, the center's multilingual team will respond to calls around the clock from all parts of world.
"This is a great opportunity for both Miami-Dade County and Visa - Miami's vibrant business community will gain 350-plus additional jobs, and Visa will continue to enhance the level of customer support we provide to our clients," said John Partridge, president of Visa Inc. "Despite tremendous competition from around the world to host this customer service center, Miami made the most strategic and financial sense, given our current operations, while providing the additional benefit of allowing Visa to keep these jobs in the U.S."
The decision to build a customer service center in Miami-Dade, Florida follows the opening of Visa's new state-of-the-art data center in the Northeastern United States, which employs 290 individuals, in November.
The Beacon Council collaborated with Florida Governor Charlie Crist's Office, Enterprise Florida and Miami-Dade County to provide Visa with a comprehensive expansion package that includes assistance from Florida's Quick Action Closing Fund, the performance-based State of Florida Qualified Targeted Industry (QTI) Tax Refund and the Miami-Dade County Targeted Jobs Incentive Fund (TJIF) incentive.
Frank Nero, the president and CEO of The Beacon Council, emphasizes that, "Visa's decision to remain and expand in Miami-Dade will result in a significant economic impact to the County."
"In this economy, 350-plus new jobs are great news for our community. We have worked very closely with our public and private sector partners to ensure that we keep Visa and its jobs in Miami-Dade," said Nero. "Visa's decision to expand its Global Customer Care operations to Miami-Dade is proof that Miami is not only a hub for business in Latin America, but throughout the globe. Our connectivity to most of the world's major markets, our quality of life and diverse workforce have helped Miami-Dade emerge as one of the top choices for companies like Visa."
"Visa has proven to be a terrific corporate citizen for Miami-Dade County and a sought-after employer for our residents," said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez. "Its commitment to job growth in our region is a testament to Miami's diversified workforce and growing economy."
The addition of these new positions will increase the number of people Visa employs in Miami to nearly 600.
