The FINANCIAL -- Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has said in a statement it would file charges related to Michael Jackson's death on February 8, according to RIA Novosti.
Though Jackson's personal physician, Conrad Murray, is seen as a prime suspect in the case, the officials did not specify the type of charges or who would be charged.
"A case will be filed on Monday, February 8... Information on charges and the scheduled arraignment will be released after the case is filed," the statement reads.
The U.S. media has earlier announced that charges against Murray might be filed on February 5. The physician denies any involvement, saying that he did not prescribe any medicines that might have caused the death.
CNN has earlier reported, citing a law enforcement source, that Murray's lawyers and prose cutors had been negotiating Thursday to have Murray turn himself in, but those negotiations failed.
"I don't know what part of negotiations could have broken down, in light of the fact that we've placed ourselves in the hands of law enforcement to surrender at any time," Murray's lawyer, Ed Chernoff, was quoted by the channel as saying.
Meanwhile, the father of the deceased pop star, Joe Jackson, is set to sue news outlets which published a photo of his dead son, citing a legal precedent where such publications were acknowledged an invasion of privacy, the TMZ portal said.
Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009, at a Los Angeles hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest and going into a coma. A police investigation into Jackson's death has centered on his use of prescription drugs and on the doctors who treated him.
