The FINANCIAL -- UK, June 23, 2011 -- J.K. Rowling announces the next chapter in the
Harry Potter franchise: Pottermore on YouTube. As it is known, the final
film will open this summer.
What is it? According to Rowling it's "an online reading experience unlike any other". It's the same story "with a few crucial additions".
One of these new additions is a reader. "Just as the experience of reading requires that imaginations of the author and reader work together to create the story," said Rowling, "so Pottermore will be built, in part, by you – the reader."
It will also incorporate "additional information" that the author has been hoarding for years.
Details are thin, but the official website describes it as "a free website that builds an exciting online experience around the reading of the Harry Potter books."
According to Entertainment Weekly the website will combine "social networking elements with an immersive game-like world."
Pottermore will be open to everyone from October, but go to the official website - www.pottermore.com - to sign up for early entry.
So after all the build-up, after all the owl-embellish hype, the big announcement was an online interactive version of the Harry Potter books.
