| Global Compact: Hunan Province (China) Launches Massive Environmental Efforts |

The FINANCIAL -- At the 2009 International Cooperation Forum on Resources and Environment in Hunan, attended by senior representatives of government, business and civil society, officials unveiled an ambitious environment-friendly investment scheme for the future development of the Hunan province.
The forum features Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan City Clusters - a Chinese state pilot project lead by Hunan Province and supported by the Chinese central government, making an effort to build a resource-conserving and environment-friendly society.
In his opening remarks at the Forum, Georg Kell, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact, emphasized that the action plan sets a new milestone for environmentally friendly development in China and beyond. He highlighted that to truly build an environment-friendly society, global cooperation and collective action among government, business and other stakeholders are crucial. He further stressed that business can play an important role and drive real changes towards environmental sustainability and social benefit through leadership, innovation and technology.
