The Chairman of the German Business Association in Georgia DWVG, Prof. Dr. Claus Hipp, in an interview with The FINANCIAL says that he never perceived Georgia as a politically unstable country and speaks about the current challenges in the country.

On 15 September the German business association in Georgia DWVG, German Embassy in Georgia and Invest in Georgia are organizing ‘Expo Germany’ an exhibition of German companies already presented in Georgia.

“The exhibition will be opened by the Ministry of Economic Development of Georgia and the German Ambassador in Georgia. In terms of Expo Germany the delegation will hold B2B meetings with Georgian entrepreneurs for future cooperation and investing money in the spheres of agriculture, energy, healthcare, and construction in Georgia,” Prof. Dr. Hipp says.

Q. Why is Georgia attractive for German investors?

A. Georgia is attractive for German investors because of the recent changes and developments thathave happened in the country since 2003. The country is trying to perfect democracy and this can be suggested as one of the main attractions for foreign investors. Georgia is ready for new challenges and we see huge potential in the country’s economic development.

Q. Political instability in Georgia has been one of the main hampers for investors. Do you think that this problem is already over and what are the risks that still remain in Georgia for investors?

A. Actually, I never perceived Georgia as a politically unstable country. Even during the August war, you found some foreign investors not cancelling their investments in Georgia. At the moment I do think that the country is free of any risks and the German delegation of entrepreneurs is the best example to prove this.

Q. What can you tell us about the German Business Association’s activities in Georgia?

A. German Business Association DWVG, which has existed in Georgia since 2007, is working on economic development between these two countries. The Association supports German business in Georgia, tries to develop networking between the countries and encourages German businessmen to invest in Georgia.

Q. In your view, which are the Georgian products that might be introduced to the German market and do you plan to discuss this issue?

A. It will be good if Georgian food and wine were introduced to the German market.
