The FINANCIAL -- Daihatsu Motor Co. (7262) said on February 23 it will build a new factory in Indonesia to produce low-cost compact cars for Asian markets, according to Nikkei.com.
The automaker said it has purchased an 800,000-sq.-meter site for the plant in an industrial complex in Karawang, West Java, near Jakarta.
The firm will spend about 20 billion yen on the plant, not counting the cost of purchasing and developing the site.
The factory is scheduled to start up at the end of 2012, with an annual capacity of 100,000 cars. It is expected to employ about 1,400 people initially.
