21/09/2009 17:41 (873 Day 22:13 minutes ago)

The FINANCIAL -- Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY) has been given a 100 percent rating on the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) Corporate Equality Index for 2010. This is the fourth consecutive year Lilly is recognized as one of the Best Places to Work for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Equality.

The Corporate Equality Index measures an organization's efforts related to creating an equitable environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) employees. The HRC's survey questions employers about non-discrimination policies, sexual orientation diversity training availability, employer-provided domestic partner insurance coverage and an employer-sponsored LGBT employee resource group among other criteria.

The HRC pushes corporations to continue striving for excellence, as each year benchmarks are increased and companies must meet higher standards. This ensures that efforts do not become stagnant and that employers are truly supporting the rights of LGBT employees to the best of their abilities.

"We are extremely proud to have received this honor, and see this as further evidence we are making progress in creating fully welcoming workplace for our gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees," said Bob Armitage, senior vice president and general counsel at Lilly, and the executive sponsor of GLEAM, Lilly's LGBT employee affinity group. "Lilly is dedicated to fair and equal treatment of all our employees and we greatly appreciate this recognition of our efforts."

GLEAM, which stands for gay and lesbian employees, advocates and more, is an employee affinity group at Lilly established nearly 20 years ago committed to offering a welcome, safe, productive working environment regardless of one's sexual orientation.
