Eli Lilly and Company Bringing Diabetes Education Program

The FINANCIAL --  Eli Lilly and Company  will bring one of its patient education programs to Washington, D.C., September 21-24 during the 2011 Annual Legislative Conference presented by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

In attendance will be Eli Lilly and Company's Fearless African-Americans Connected and Empowered (F.A.C.E.) Diabetes initiative spokesperson and singer-songwriter Angie Stone, along with Roniece Weaver, M.S., R.D., L.D., founding partner and executive director of the Hebni Nutrition Consultants, Inc., and one of the creators of the Soul Food Pyramid, a culturally-sensitive food guide pyramid.


Stone will be in the F.A.C.E. Diabetes booth from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, to help raise awareness about the diabetes epidemic facing the African American community. As the national spokesperson for the F.A.C.E. Diabetes campaign, Stone has been traveling to cities around the country since 2007 to inspire others.

On Friday, September 23, Weaver will be in the booth from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. sharing recipes and cooking tips. Attendants also can pick up educational materials and resources designed to encourage African Americans to take control of their health.

Lilly has taken a lead on educating about health care disparities and providing health care information to diverse communities. F.A.C.E. Diabetes is one of Lilly's many patient education programs.
