The FINANCIAL -- Eurostat – the statistical office of the EU – has reported a record-breaking unemployment level in the European Union during the last nine years, by listing the Baltic States in the very top of the list, according to the proportion of their unemployed population.
Latvian national airline airBaltic continues its commenced efforts and is refunding full cost of economy class ticket to those passengers who have lost their job during the period from purchase of the ticket until a day of flight.
"Eurostat has concluded that the unemployment level in Latvia in September reached 19.7%, while the relevant levels in Estonia and Lithuania were 13.8% and 13.3% accordingly," airBaltic reported.
Bertolt Flick, President and CEO of Latvian national airline airBaltic emphasises: "More and more people of the Baltic States are losing their jobs, therefore we must be understanding towards our passengers by refunding money that has been spent for purchase of flight tickets. Unfortunately, the current situation shows that we will not be able to cease this privilege within the near future because recovery of economy is expected in 2011 only".
Customers of airBaltic are kindly invited to visit the offices of the airline where they have the opportunity to receive ticket refund, by presenting a correspondingly prepared statement on individual's status of unemployment, issued by the State Employment Agency (Latvia), the Employment Exchange (Lithuania), or the Unemployment Insurance Department (Estonia).
The said refund applies to tickets of economy class only which are purchased after April 16, 2009.
