The awards, described by the Wall Street Journal as the ‘Oscars’ of the global travel and tourism industry, honour the ‘best of the best’ in the travel and tourism industry worldwide.

"Hotels competing for the ‘Leading Business Hotel’ award were judged on criteria including, business performance, customer experience and satisfaction, personnel, communication, innovation, creativity, enterprise and team work. Leading travel industry professionals voted the Hilton London on Park Lane winner in the category for demonstrating excellence in all categories," Hilton Hotels informed.

Commenting on the hotel’s accolade, general manager, Michael Shepherd said: “To be recognised by our industry peers as the country’s top business hotel is a fantastic achievement. We believe that face to face meetings are the best way to do business, and the team have worked particularly hard to ensure that our business guest experience exceptional service and value when they visit the hotel. For example, we have just completed a half a million pound refurbishment of our meeting rooms space, creating a new sleeker look and incorporating new up to the minute technology.”

Graham Cooke, President, World Travel Awards commented: “The past 12 months have brought several challenges, namely the economic downturn and the outbreak of swine flu, which has impacted travel and tourism worldwide; the winners have remained focused on their long term objectives, and continued to deliver above and beyond the call of duty, setting an industry example.”
