The FINANCIAL -- BEIJING, A 5.6-magnitude quake jolted southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region early on November 8, Xinhua said citing the National Seismological Network.
The quake, with an epicenter located about 33 km below ground, was registered at 4:08 a.m local time [20:08 GMT] in the region's Xigaze Prefecture. No damage or casualties have been reported.
This week, a series of shocks measuring more than 5.0 on the Richter scale, has been registered in the southwestern province of Yunnan, the Qinghai Province in the northwest, as well as in Taiwan.
Seismic activity has increased in China since the country's most powerful earthquake in 30 years, that hit the southwest province of Sichuan on May 12, 2008. At least 70,000 people have been killed, 374,000 injured and 10 million displaced. Another 18,000 people are still missing. Direct economic losses from the quake have exceeded $150 billion.
