According to President Mauricio Funes, who called for an extraordinary session of the Cabinet on November 9, the damage inflicted by the hurricane is 'unaccountable.'

Hurricane Ida  is currently moving along the Gulf of Mexico at a speed of 160 km/h (about 100 mph) and, according to the latest estimates, 124 people have killed in El Salvador, with some 70 reported to be missing.

With an initial speed of 120 km/h (75 mph), the hurricane ripped into Nicaragua on November 5, damaging homes and infrastructure and forcing some 40,000 people out of their homes.

U.S. forecasters at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) have begun issuing hurricane updates for most of the Gulf Coast, from Louisiana to Florida, in advance of the storm.
