The FINANCIAL -- Suspected militants shot dead a police officer in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia early on Thursday, a law enforcement source told RIA Novosti.
The source said the officer was killed when unknown assailants armed with automatic weapons broke into the territory of his home in the volatile republic’s Sunzhensky district.
The officer’s wife was also hospitalized. There is no information on her condition.
Militant attacks on police, troops and officials are a frequent occurrence in Ingushetia, as well as nearby Dagestan.
