British Airways will now offer three flights to London

The FINANCIAL -- British Airways will now offer three flights to London from Tbilisi, local bmi representative office reported. Regular non-stop flights will depart Tbilisi International Airport to Terminal 1 at Heathrow at 12.30 on Monday, 12.35 on Thursday and 13.30 on Saturday. Services from Heathrow Terminal 1 to Tbilisi International Airport will operate at 21.00 London time on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, bmi, the second largest airline operating at London’s Heathrow airport reported last week.

“bmi is extremely enthusiastic about what it can bring to the Georgian market”, said Zuri Shakarishvili, local bmi representative, Commenting on the new services. “bmi will now offer three flights to London. This not only allows the bmi customer to explore London and the UK for business or pleasure but also allows them to avail of the many other destinations that bmi connects to in Europe and the US. We will also continue to focus on maintaining our superior punctuality record at Heathrow where Civil Aviation Authority figures clearly show we outperform all other British airlines at the airport.”

“Coinciding with the launch of the new route, bmi is introducing major enhancements to its in-flight products. These include improved food and drinks services on all mid-haul and long-haul routes, new amenity kits and kids' packs, and in-flight entertainment offering up to 22 films, including the latest blockbuster movies. Business Class travellers enjoy a host of exceptional facilities aboard bmi flights. Along with guaranteed comfort from a seat with a 50” pitch, individual video screens deliver a range of programming as well as Audio Visual On-Demand (AVOD) entertainment on certain flights”.

bmi, the second largest airline operating at London’s Heathrow airport. Company has announced last week regarding takeover of Heathrow-based BA franchise airline British Mediterranean (BMED). bmi’s already impressive flight network will include 17 new destinations throughout Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia as from October 28th 2007.

With this purchase, bmi is now the sole British carrier operating flights between Georgia and the UK. The airline currently operates around 170 flights a day to and from its main Heathrow hub. bmi is also a member of Star Alliance, the world’s biggest airline alliance, providing passengers with global connections and a smooth travel experience.

British Midland plc, the UK-based group holding company of bmi, has subscribed to approximately £30 million of new shares in BMED. BMED, which was established as a limited company in 1994 and operated as an independent franchise partner of British Airways from 1997, currently has a fleet of three Airbus A320 and five Airbus A321 aircraft.

Speaking about the takeover, chief executive officer of the bmi group Nigel Turner said “Bringing BMED into the bmi group creates a business with a turnover in excess of £1 billion with substantial growth opportunities. The acquisition enables the bmi group to accelerate its strategy of expansion into medium-haul markets because BMED operates to 17 destinations in 16 countries and has no overlap with any current bmi route. BMED has a first class workforce and we welcome them into the bmi group.”

We are very proud to be working with bmi which has an exceptional reputation throughout the industry and we anticipate many positive developments in the future, both in the short and long term.”
