WestJet launches more non-stop service from YYC

The FINANCIAL -- WestJet on April 3 launched new, non-stop daily service between Calgary and Terrace, BC, and between Calgary and Yellowknife, NT.

Flights between Calgary and Terrace will be operated by WestJet Encore's fleet of Canadian-made Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft, while flights between Calgary and Yellowknife will be operated by WestJet's fleet of Boeing Next-Generation 737s, according to WestJet.

"WestJet Encore continues to make its mark across Canada with new destinations and routes, increased frequencies, more competition and lower fares," said Ferio Pugliese, Executive Vice-President, WestJet, and President, WestJet Encore. "Our new service to Terrace is made possible by our modern, comfortable, fast and fuel-efficient fleet of Q400 turboprop aircraft that allow us to expand air service for smaller Canadian communities and continue to grow service from our hub in Calgary."

"Whether commuting to Terrace for work in northwestern British Columbia's strong and developing economy or Yellowknife, the diamond capital of North America, these new non-stop flights will support the economic growth of these two important Canadian regions," said Ferio Pugliese.

"Congratulations to WestJet as they continue to grow their hub at YYC with the introduction of new non-stop service to Yellowknife and Terrace-Kitimat," said Stephan Poirier, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer for The Calgary Airport Authority. "As one of Canada's best-served airports, YYC is just one stop from anywhere in the world, ensuring Western Canada can continue to take advantage of our extensive route network."

WestJet Encore launched in June 2013, operating 10 departures daily to six destinations with two aircraft and 131 employees. By July 2015, WestJet Encore will offer more than 130 daily departures to more than 30 destinations across Canada with 19 aircraft and approximately 700 employees. With its recently announced expansion into Atlantic Canada, WestJet Encore now serves Canadians from coast to coast.
