EU provides cash assistance support for 16,000 IDPs in Ukraine

The FINANCIAL -- Around 16,000 vulnerable IDPs in Ukraine will receive unconditional cash assistance of UAH 1,000 per person this summer through the second round of multipurpose cash transfer support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), supported by the EU.

The EU, through its Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO), has provided €1 million, together with €400,000 in co-funding from Norway, for IDPs in the Kharkiv Region. With an additional €1 million provided by Germany, the IOM will be able to target IDPs currently staying in nine regions of Ukraine: Vinnytsya, Poltava, Sumy, Odesa, Mykolayiv, Kherson, Cherkasy, Chernihiv and Zhytomyr, according to Euro East.

“We must target our assistance to those most in need, those who cannot support themselves,” said Mamar Merzouk, Head of the ECHO office in Kyiv, adding that cash grants preserve people's dignity since they can decide on their own how to best meet their most urgent needs.
